My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Watch out: What could seem like a great idea could really be a bad one! Why? As estrogen and testosterone rise today, they amp up your optimism, which can make it easy to overlook major faults in a new plan. Before pushing ahead, try asking friends their opinion. You could end up saving yourself a lot of time, money and hassle.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: There’s lots to love about Week 2 of your cycle—the high energy, sex drive and brain skills, just to name a few. However, research also reveals one downside: A higher-than-usual amount of stress. Turns out, high estrogen triggers a longer and more intense stress reaction to job interviews, meeting your partner’s parents for dinner or even something relatively minor like driving in traffic. To prevent yourself from spiraling into a sweat-inducing, heart-pounding stress-out, the moment you feel tension start to rise, try slow breathing (new relaxation research shows that taking slow breaths is more important than deep ones) or try distracting yourself from the stressor (for instance, with a fun free website that brings your stick figure to life!).

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Cue the waterworks: You may end up shedding a few tears over sad stories, shocking news or even happy events. Blame goes to lower levels of estrogen and rising progesterone, a combination that has you channeling your touch-feely side.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: A project you were so sure about earlier in your cycle may not feel like it’s clicking today. Why? During the first half of your cycle, feel-good brain chemicals kept your optimism high. And now as estrogen plunges, you see problems you tried to ignore during those high estrogen days. But, you don’t have to give up the project altogether. Instead, you can use this “reality check” phase to address and fix these issues so that the project can be as successful as you hoped.
