My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’ll notice that your memory gets sharper, you’re thinking faster on your feet and you’re using more multi-syllabic words (like that one) than you did during Week 3 and Week 4 of your cycle. Credit goes to rising estrogen and testosterone, which improve brain skills as they climb!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Keep in mind that high testosterone is going to make you a bit more impulsive today, so you may say things you probably shouldn’t (like disclosing a friend’s big secret that she loves to bowl–and not ironically, either), do things that could be a bit dangerous (like hopping on top of a table and dancing–that only works out well in the movies) or buy things totally out of your price range (like anything from the Apple store–or a Disney gift shop for that matter).

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Your credit cards get a breather today as rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone have you spending less than you did during the first two weeks of your cycle. The exception (isn’t there always an exception?) is when you spot throw pillows, picture frames, candles and other items  that can spruce up your personal space. Then rising progesterone, which brings out your urge to feather the nest, has you buying them in bulk!

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Every day, I start off with a firm resolution to eat healthy and so I serve myself an antioxidant-rich breakfast of 100% organic blueberry juice, low-fat granola with fair trade dark chocolate chunks and chai tea. But, by the end of the day, my willpower has been sapped and I find myself munching on potato chips, chocolate bundt cake and any leftovers I can scrounge out of the fridge. My point? When estrogen and testosterone plunge in premenstrual Week 4, it can be a lot like the end of my day turns out, where physical and mental stress and fatigue build up to a point where you either just don’t care or no longer have the energy to stick to healthy resolutions you’ve made for yourself.
