Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Thursday, April 7, 2011

My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Sure, embarrassing things happen—such as bumping into a pole, breaking a heel or stumbling down the steps. Luckily, if they happen to you today, rising estrogen is upping your feel-good brain chemicals, which makes it way easier to laugh off embarrassments and quickly move on without too much fuss.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may struggle with feelings of restlessness today. That’s because high estrogen and testosterone make you easily bored and make the idea of staying indoors or doing the same old thing is positively dreadful! Treat your high-hormoned self to some fun by signing up for a new class, taking off on an impromptu trip or dressing up and hitting the town tonight!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Rising progesterone is doing its very best to thwart any diet efforts you’ve been making as it triggers cravings for chips, ice cream, cookies, candy, pizza and other fat-packed comfort treats. If you get hit with a yen for junk food and are watching your weight, try proven craving-curbers, such as taking a 10-minute walk, distracting yourself with something fun (like a call to a friend or playing an online game) or drinking water. Need to munch on something? Then pick healthy snacks instead, such as fruit, whole grain crackers or low-fat yogurt.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may see a controversy or scandal where none exists today. For instance, you may be convinced that a coworker is drunk, a neighbor is peeking into your house or that someone is trying to steal your mate. Why the negative view? As estrogen plunges, it makes you a bit more cynical and pessimistic about people’s actions and motives. Hold off taking action (unless evidence clearly points to someone’s wrongdoing) until Week 1 when rising estrogen boosts optimism, which could make these suspicions disappear.
