Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: People may have annoyed you a few days ago during your premenstrual Week 4, however, once you’re past the crampy, achy part of this week, rising estrogen could have you feeling more positive about your honey, family, friends, fellow students and coworkers. You may even have a complete change of heart about someone you were sure you kicked out of your life for good!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Careful! You’re more likely to overindulge in alcohol, food, cigarettes and anything else that gives you pleasure, but could be bad for you. The reason? As estrogen climbs, it gives your brain a bigger euphoric buzz from fun yet naughty stuff, so once you start partaking, it can be hard to stop.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may feel less sure about making changes or starting something new, such as looking for a new job, switching majors, finding a different sweetheart, even messing with your usual travel route. The reason for your hesitance is due to rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone, which bring down brain chemicals responsible for feelings of confidence. As a result, you may try to make do with what you have for now.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may feel like no outfit fits right, you’re bloating like a puffer fish and you just can’t win with your hair. Are you suddenly falling apart at the seams? No. You’re just experiencing a drop in self-esteem from plunging estrogen and testosterone, which make it soooo much easier to see your faults and way less easy to see your positive qualities. To feel better about yourself, first avoid department store dressing room mirrors like the plague (seriously, don’t stores realize how awful the lighting is in there?), then don an outfit and wear a hairstyle that you feel most comfortable in, which will make you less self-conscious about your appearance.
