Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Monday, March 5, 2012

My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You may take the time to notice a gorgeous sunset, a beautiful moonrise or other bits of beauty today as rising estrogen sparks a rise in feel-good brain chemicals that inspire you to take a greater interest in natural wonders.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You could be tempted to blow your whole bank account on a big purchase today (like a new car, flat-screen TV or vacation) and convince yourself that you’ll cover the bills somehow. High estrogen makes you overly optimistic about how much money you have or will have in the future and testosterone is making you impulsive, which is a perfect recipe for a fat commission check for any savvy salesperson who gets within 10 yards of you.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Wave buh-bye to your libido today. Rising progesterone is putting the kibosh on that bit of fun. And, if you do happen to feel the rare stirrings from down below, don’t count on an easy or fulfilling climax; progesterone is making it more difficult to reach orgasm and the orgasms you do reach are totally ho-hum compared to those reached in other weeks of your cycle. The good news? Cuddling, massage and foreplay all still feel wonderful and boost feel-good brain chemicals that lift mood and make you feel more connected to your partner, so there’s no harm in trying!

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: If you feel the urge to cry over relationship problems, work stress or even a TV commercial, don’t beat yourself up over it. It’s just descending estrogen that’s triggering the waterworks. As this hormone plunges, it depletes your brain of the feel-good brain chemical serotonin, which makes you more apt to tear up. The good news? Studies show that crying releases stress and boosts mood, making this an ingenious and easy way for your body to level out your emotions.
