Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Monday, March 18, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on, you may feel like piling more on your plate, for instance, taking on more projects at work or filling your vacation itinerary with more activities. That’s because rising estrogen is boosting your mental and physical oomph, which makes you feel like you can take on more than usual!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may be tempted to overdo it today, for instance, down too many mochaccinos, eat too many Doritos or get your money’s worth out of two-for-one happy hour drink specials. That’s because high estrogen and testosterone are triggering a higher production of feel-good brain chemicals when you do things you enjoy, plus they’re making you totally optimistic that nothing bad could possibly happen by going overboard just this once!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may now feel pessimistic about a goal you were super-optimistic and passionate about just last week. For instance, you may feel you’re not going to be offered a job you interviewed for even though you were sure it was in the bag, you may feel like deleting a screenplay you’re writing because you think the storyline stinks or you may want to give up on a weight-loss goal because you doubt you’ll never reach it. Don’t worry: It’s just your hormones talking! Rising progesterone coupled with lower levels of estrogen and testosterone sap your confidence and motivation. But, you don’t have to let them get the best of you. Studies show there are easy ways you can boost your confidence and motivation back up: Remind yourself of other difficult goals you’ve reached (so you know you’re capable of doing anything), remember the original reasons you wanted to pursue this particular goal (which reignites your passion) and think of other folks who’ve already reached similar goals (which proves it can be done)!

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Have back-up plans ready, for instance, a second restaurant to go to in case your first choice has a 40-minute wait or a different movie to see in case the friend you’re going with already saw the one you planned to get tickets for. Plunging estrogen can bring down your patience and mood, making you irritable and broody if your plans suddenly change and you don’t get what you want. By picking a second option you like ahead of time, you’ll avoid triggering a foul premenstrual mood!
