Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Today’s hormone horoscope: Have a to-do list a mile long? With a little focus, you can cross more tasks off your list during Week 1 and Week 2. That’s because rising estrogen and testosterone are doing their best to rev your pep. In fact, you’ll feel your energy level rise all the way through the end of Week 2. To get even more energized, avoid nap-inducers (like wine, TV and that neighbor down the street who saps your pep with her boring, pointless stories) and load up on energy-refreshers (such as upbeat music, exercise and a little caffeine).

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone horoscope: You’re probably standing up straighter, voicing your opinion more and looking more people directly in the eyes today. Credit for your uber-confidence goes to high estrogen and testosterone, which ratchet up brain chemicals that make you feel self-assured and worthy of being noticed!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone horoscope: If it’s the first half of your Week 3, it may be harder to shake off irritation than it was during the first half of your cycle. The problem is that plunging levels of estrogen and testosterone can put you a little on edge and make annoying people, places and activities even more grating. Oh, they’ll still get on your nerves. But, you’ll be a little less likely to want to run into the middle of the street and scream expletives that would make rap artist blush.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Today’s hormone horoscope: Trying to whittle down your weight? Try to avoid looking at fatty foods, such as doughnuts and ice cream, and surround yourself with healthy nibbles instead, such as fruit and low-fat granola bars. A recent study in the journal Brain Research reveals that your brain becomes more excited by the sight of calorie-rich foods during your premenstrual phase, making them more difficult to resist!
