Which week are you on in your cycle?
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: If you’re in Week 1 now, then you’re definitely going to be in Week 2 by New Year’s Eve. I bring this up because it is your job today to seek out a super-fun event (or two or 12) to attend while ringing in the New Year. By the time you hit your high estrogen and testosterone Week 2, these party-loving hormones are going to make you want to wave bye-bye to 2010 in style surround by lots of folks, music, food and champagne!
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: The let-down from the holidays is hard on Week 2 gals who got a special thrill out of braving crowds, breaking up boring routine and having lots of spur-of-the-moment fun. While you may be tempted to chase away ho-hum post-holiday blues by planning zany antics for New Year’s Eve, I feel I must warn you that by the time you hit December 31st, chances are you’re going to be in your Week 3. And the rising progesterone of your Week 3 will have you feeling sedate, quiet and not as in the mood to down a magnum of champagne and shake your moneymaker on a tabletop as you are this week. As a result, you may want to plan a mellow celebration, like a small gathering with your best buds or a romantic dinner with a special someone.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: As progesterone rises and estrogen and testosterone dip, you may find that your thoughts turn inward and you reflect on the progress you made this year as well as the setbacks you encountered. By the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, you’ll be in your Week 4 when estrogen and testosterone plunge, making you more sensitive to noise, crowds, long lines for the ladies room and a party prematurely running out of champagne. So, you’ll be happiest making plans that cater to your Week 4 self by avoiding jostley, loud, annoying events (like dance clubs and Times Square in NYC) and making sure you have plenty of your favorite foods and celebratory drinks.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: It may be hitting you today that you didn’t reach all the goals you set out to attain in January of 2010. While regret triggered by plunging estrogen and testosterone may make you tempted to try to quickly lose 10 pounds, learn to play the guitar, enroll in grad school and write your novel all before December 31, there is good news: By the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, you’ll be in your Week 1. Estrogen and testosterone will then be rising again, which will erase regret and replace it with new optimism and confidence that 2011 will definitely be the year you succeed in every resolution you make!
