Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Watch your wallet today! Rising estrogen and testosterone are making you more likely to splurge on lots of little impulse purchases, like nail polish, magazines, toys, sunglasses and keychains. Unfortunately, those little items add up fast, so if you’re on a budget try keeping your cash at home.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may be tempted to call in sick to work, school or other obligations today. High estrogen is making you easily bored with a hum-drum Monday routine, and high testosterone is making you impulsive and confident enough to try your acting chops as you try to convince whoever’s expecting you that you’re too sick to show up and you absolutely, definitely, 100% will not be playing hooky at an amusement park or beachside lounge.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You’ll likely notice that you’re not speaking as eloquently as you did during Weeks 1 and 2 when estrogen was climbing. Now that this hormone reaches a lower level and progesterone is dominating, it’s more difficult to remember the exact word you want to say, get sentences out without stumbling over your words and avoid frequently pausing and/or saying “um” and “ah”.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Try avoid making drastic permanent or semi-permanent changes today, such as cutting 10 inches off your hair, getting a tattoo, ditching your partner or quitting school or your job. Plunging estrogen and testosterone bring down you patience and make you prone to making rash decisions without thinking through the long-term consequences.
