My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’re feeling more resolute about decisions you’re making this week and next week of your cycle thanks to rising estrogen and testosterone, which amp up your confidence and motivation. And that’s great news, since it means you’re far more likely to go through with plans to lose weight, start a blog, launch a business, find a new partner and do anything else you set your mind to.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Be on the lookout for sudden moments of euphora, then enjoy them! High estrogen and testosterone are lifting feel-good brain chemicals to cycle-long highs, which can result in unexpected feelings of elation for no reason whatsoever. Consider them a lovely parting gift from your hormones before they plunge in Week 3, taking all those super-great feelings with them.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You may end up running late today as rising progesterone, a sedating hormone, slows you down and keeps you from getting to appointments, meetings and lunch dates on time.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You’re happiest sticking with food, people and activities you know well this week. The reason? As estrogen and testosterone plunge, they bring down your patience with learning curves and challenging experiences. Plus, they’re making you more prone to stomachaches, headaches, pain and other discomfort, which can all arise due to new food, irritating people and activities you don’t yet know how to do well.
