My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: This is a great weekend for dusting off old toys that have been long forgotten. You know, the waffle iron you bought after eating Belgian waffles on vacation, the macrame kit you got because it reminded you of how much you loved craft projects as a kid and the bowling ball you treated yourself to when you bowled your best game. Rising estrogen is putting you in a mood for fun, and like most of us, you probably have a lot of untapped fun like these stored in closets and drawers around your home.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Revel in your greatness today! High estrogen and testosterone are pumping up your confidence about your talents and appearance, giving you more self-esteem than you have during any other week of your cycle. So, hold you head high and strut your stuff!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: People who got used to making you laugh for the past two weeks are gonna start to worry that they’ve broken their funny bone when they’re around you. The reason? During Week 1 and Week 2, you were all guffaws as estrogen rose since this hormone boosted laugh-triggering endorphins. But, in Week 3, not only does estrogen dip to a lower level, making the giggles farther and fewer between, rising progesterone is also on the scene, making you seem more serious and sober.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: There’s no way to sugarcoat this: you’re apt to get frustrated more frequently today over just about anything: web pages won’t download fast enough, too many cars clogging up the road ahead of you and your partner not responding instantly to your every command. Of course, it’s no surprise that the blame for the lack of patience falls squarely on plunging estrogen, which brings down mood-stabilizing serotonin.
