My Hormonology Which week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: It’s going to be hard to resist a little, okay a lot, of impulse spending today, for instance, buying a new nail polish, outfit or a weird food you pass by in the supermarket and will probably never eat but are curious about anyway. Blame for your free-spending ways goes straight to rising testosterone, which makes you more impulsive, and rising estrogen, which gives you the optimism that you can afford some splurging on non-necessities.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’re probably in the mood to make a change to something that’s been the same forever, or at least the last few months, for instance, you may pick a new theme for your computer or phone, change your bedroom rug or take a different route to work or school. With estrogen and testosterone so high, you’re bored with the same old thing and want an upgrade to something more interesting.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Thinking about cleaning out closets and getting rid of stuff you no longer need or use? You might want to wait till Week 1 or Week 2 to start purging. Lower levels of estrogen and rising progesterone are making you more sentimental about that old sweater you never, ever wore, that coffee table that doesn’t go with your new decorating scheme and the cow clock that moos loudly on the hour every hour. As a result, it’ll either be harder to put them in bags to donate or sell or, if you do manage to get rid of them, you may regret it and wish you hadn’t.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Research shows that women are more prone to ruminating than men. Unlike many guys who have the charming ability to turn their emotions on and off like a light switch, we tend to churn over issues, problems, insults and irritations in our minds till we drive ourselves crazy. I bring this up because, as estrogen nosedives this week, you’ll be more inclined to torture yourself with ruminations about issues big and small. Luckily, there’s a pretty simple way to get out of your own head and stop the revolving-door thought process: distract yourself. Studies shows that going to the movies, shopping, dancing or doing anything else that pretty much stops you from thinking slams the brakes on ruminating so you can let go of the issue and destress.
