Which week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Jokes, sit-coms and watching someone trip over their own feet are funnier to you today and all through Week 2 as rising estrogen amps up brain chemicals that fire up your sense of humor.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may drive the people around you a little crazy as you talk out loud, sing to yourself, chat to your pets or plants or come up with any other way to get your gab on. High estrogen is making you chatty and high confidence-boosting testosterone doesn’t make you the least bit self-conscious about where or how express your verbal side.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You may notice it’s harder to remember little details today. Blame goes to rising progesterone, a hormone that fogs up your brain a wee bit. Luckily, there’s an easy way to sharpen recall any day of your cycle: nibble dark chocolate. A recent British study shows that the flavanols it contains trigger a surge of blood to the brain’s memory centers, making them work harder so you remember more for up to three hours after enjoying the sweet treat.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Going someplace crowded, noisy, stuffy or smelly? Try stashing something in your purse or travel mug that’s sure to soothe you. Plunging estrogen is making you more sensitive to annoyances, so having your favorite chai latte, comic book, mini massager or other indulgence will make the experience easier.
