My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Week 1 is a perfect phase of your cycle to start a new project or revive an old one, say, going on a job hunt, redecorating your room or writing a screenplay. That’s because rising estrogen is boosting your optimism, which in turn revs motivation. What’s more, this hormone is making your brain skills sharper day by day, so you’re actually better and faster at making decisions and doing tasks that can push your project forward!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Schedule medical procedures, blind dates, big presentations and other important but potentially nerve-wracking events during your Week 2. High estrogen and testosterone will help you get through it by a) bolstering confidence and optimism, helping you focus on the positive results and b) making you far more impulsive, so if confidence fails at least you’ll dive in head-first anyway just to see what happens!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’ve got a job interview, big client pitch or other activity where you need to appear upbeat and energetic, you’re likely going to have to work on putting more oomph into your presentation. Rising progesterone, a sedating hormone, is making you subdued. So, you could come off as uninterested if you don’t remind yourself to smile wider, use more gestures and project your voice.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: By far, this is the worst week of your cycle to schedule something new, big and important, like a blind date or medical procedure. Plunging hormones bring down feel-good brain chemicals, which can make you more pessimistic about the outcome, which in turn, can make the event far more difficult or annoying that it would be in any other week of your cycle. Can’t reschedule? Then make a point of boosting flagging feel-good brain chemicals beforehand by watching a funny YouTube video, chatting with a funny, upbeat friend or doing anything else that is guaranteed to make you smile.
