Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Friday, March 4, 2011

My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’ll find yourself laughing more today than you did in the past two weeks. Why? Rising estrogen is bringing out your sense of humor and making things you hear and see seem funnier than they were in the second half of your cycle.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: There’s a lot to love about your Week 2: You’ve got more energy, your libido is raging, your brain skills can’t be beat and your mood is soaring. However, it’s not all good news: High estrogen can also trigger anxiety. That’s because this hormone intensifies and prolongs your stress response to issues big and small. So, try to have stress-busters ready, such as a jasmine-scented candle (jasmine nabbed the top spot in a recent study for its soothing effect) or a cookie (research shows that the combo of fat and sugar lowers stress hormones–but remember to stop at just one! Okay, two. Otherwise, you may stress out about your waistline, too!).

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You may be considering joining in on classes or activities that you would have shrugged off during Week 2 because they were too sedate, such as yoga, meditation or pottery painting. That’s because rising progesterone is slowing you down and making you drawn toward more relaxing pastimes.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Try to put fun higher on your to-do list today. Research shows that taking time to do favorite hobbies is a powerful way to distract yourself from premenstrual discomfort and lift a premenstrual down mood, which makes your whole day better.
