Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Friday, June 7, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: It may be difficult to resist the urge to think about a secret crush you currently have or the one you long to find. That’s rising estrogen’s fault. As it climbs higher and higher throughout your Week 1 and Week 2, it revs your desire for romance. As a result, you may find ways to “accidentally” bump into the cutie you’re adoring from afar or look for ways to find a target for your affections, such as surfing a dating website or going to a club.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Due to high estrogen and testosterone, which ratchet up your confidence and optimism to cycle-long highs, you’re prone to viewing potential dangers as far less threatening today. For instance, you may drag your friends through a sketchy-looking area, ignoring car alarms going off and police sirens one block over, in search of a hot, new nightclub you read about. Or if your boss says that the company is losing money like a sieve and there will need to be drastic cutbacks, you may just nod your head sympathetically while thinking to yourself that no one would possibly cut your paycheck. When I visited my sister in Pennsylvania last October, it was Week 2 of my cycle and I was convinced the “Storm of the Century” that was headed toward her area was going to be nothing more than a mild drizzle. After it was all over, hundreds of homes were lost and 10 days later, her town was still without electricity. The lesson here? Sometimes, it’s worth heeding warning signs–even when your high hormonal confidence tells you otherwise.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Try to allow yourself more time while getting ready to head to work, go to a meeting or join friends for a night out. Rising progesterone is slowing you down a bit, which can add extra minutes to a makeup or hair routine that you breezed through in your high-energy Week 2. As a result, you could fall behind schedule and risk arriving late.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Unlike Week 2 gals, you may be overly worried about potential threats, even when none may exist. For instance, you may brace yourself when riding as a passenger in a car, convinced that whoever’s driving is going too fast or isn’t driving cautiously enough. Or you may turn down an invitation for dinner because it’s at a restaurant that doesn’t look clean enough. The problem is that plunging estrogen is bringing down your confidence and making you pessimistic about outcomes. So, your challenge today is to remember that even though low estrogen is making the world seem like a more worrisome place, sometimes everything really is just fine.
