My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: I often say to myself that there is a “Morning Gab” and a “Night Gab” and Morning Gab is always starting projects that she leaves for Night Gab tasks to finish, even when Night Gab is always too tired to finish them and then always leaves them for Morning Gab to do the next day (you can see why I get so little done!). Well, there’s a similar pattern going on with your cycle. Your “First Half of Your Cycle You” may be tempted to start long projects that she expects “Second Half of Your Cycle You” to finish, totally ignoring the fact that Second Half of Your Cycle You is usually bone-tired from rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone to actually finish them. My point with all this crazy talk? Avoid piling too many long-term projects on your to-do list or give yourself longer deadlines since you may not have the oomph to power through them once Week 3 rolls around.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may notice that you’re remembering words and details more easily, you’re typing more accurately, you’re even seeing, smelling, hearing and tasting more sharply. Credit for all the fine tuning comes courtesy of high estrogen and testosterone, which improve body and mind as they climb!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Your credit cards get a breather today as impulsive spending goes down along with plunging testosterone. Unless, however, you see a cute pillow, yummy-smelling candle, perfect picture frame or another item that will spruce up your home. Then rising progesterone, which amps up your urge to nest, will be prodding you to buy them by the dozen.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: A project you were so sure about earlier in your cycle may not feel like it’s clicking today. Why? During the first half of your cycle, feel-good brain chemicals kept your optimism high. And now as estrogen plunges, you see problems you tried to ignore during those high estrogen days. But, you don’t have to give up the project altogether. Instead, you can use this “reality check” phase to address and fix these issues so that the project can be as successful as you hoped!
