My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Keep your eye on the clock in the morning: All through Week 1 and Week 2, you may feel you have more time than you really do around 8 am, which can have you running late for work, school or appointments. The reason? Research shows that your hormones make your inner body clock run a little slower during this time of day in the first two weeks of your cycle. And once Week 3 and Week 4 roll around, you’ll have the same problem, except it will be at 8 pm!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’ll likely be daydreaming about what I’ll call your “Week 2 cutie”. This is a person who pops up in your thoughts as a potential love interest only when Week 2 comes around. It could be a neighbor you’ve been eyeing from afar, a co-worker you joke around with, an ex from long ago who you never really got over or someone else who’s currently in your life or who you’re capable of inviting into it–but who isn’t real relationship material. That’s because when estrogen and testosterone reach high levels in this phase of your cycle, they’re pushing you to connect with someone new or exciting regardless of how much you have in common or what kind of real connection you could have. That’s why by Week 3 when estrogen and testosterone levels plummet, this Week 2 cutie is usually quickly forgotten….till next month.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Week 3 is a perfect time to make an expensive purchase you’ve been mulling over, say, a new refrigerator, car or house. That’s because lower levels of estrogen and testosterone make you less easily swayed by sales gimmicks, peppy salespeople and a dazzling (though unnecessary) array of options and more likely to focus on your budget and how the item best fits your needs. By contrast, in your Week 1 and Week 2, rising levels of estrogen and testosterone make you more easily excited by what an enthusiastic sales rep describes as a “limited time-only deal” and more prone to being won over by options that you’d probably never use, but seem pretty neat anyway. And in your Week 4, plunging estrogen can make you more critical of salespeople and products, making it more difficult to find the item you like.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Try to keep an open mind today. A dour premenstrual Week 4 mood triggered by plunging estrogen can make you more critical of people and the way they dress, their hobbies or things they say. Thing is, if you noticed the same things about them in your high estrogen Week 2, you’d probably find them fun, quirky or interesting!
