My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Week 1 is a good time for starting anew–say, launching a new diet or exercise regimen, doing the prep work for a big project or researching ways to make more money. Why? As estrogen rises, it boosts your mental and physical energy, which makes it easier to get moving on a new plan. And it amps up your optimism, which increases your motivation so you keep up your momentum!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: High hormone-fueled impulsiveness may take over today, making you do something you hadn’t planned, for instance, making a dramatic change to your hair, adopting a shelter pet or booking a weekend getaway!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Unlike Week 2 gals, your first instinct may be to shy away from spur-of-the-moment activities as lower levels of estrogen and testosterone combined with rising progesterone slow you down and make you take a more measured approach. That’s not to say you won’t do anything unplanned at all; you’re just more likely to think a bit more about the long-term results before you do.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Here’s one good benefit of premenstrual Week 4: You’re more likely to stick up for yourself, for instance, if someone takes credit for your work or a salesperson tries to swindle you. Thanks goes to plunging estrogen, which decreases your patience, so you’re less likely to ignore the problem or hope it resolves itself on its own.
