Which week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’ll probably notice that compared to last week your memory is sharper, you’re thinking faster on your feet and you’re more eloquent. These brain benefits are courtesy of rising estrogen and testosterone, which continue to sharpen these mental skills all the way through the end of Week 2.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: High estrogen is making you use higher and lower notes today and making you speak way faster. If you’re on a job interview or pitching a male boss a project, try to lower your voice a bit (to do it, simply lower your chin) and slow down. Research shows that speaking low and slow makes you sound more professional and it helps men, who have fewer language centers in their brain than women, keep up with you.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You have the opposite problem of Week 2 gal: When on a job interview or pitching an important project, try to perk up your enthusiasm, use higher notes and smile more. Rising progesterone is making you subdued, which can make you come off as bored or disinterested.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Try filling your weekend with proven mood-boosting activities, like spending time with good pals, treating yourself to your favorite chocolate glazed doughnut or going for a mani/pedi. Plunging estrogen brings down feel-good brain chemicals and this may or may not trigger a down mood. But, with so many easy, fun ways to ward it off, why even risk it?
