My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Estrogen rises all throughout your Week 1, which is a good thing since the higher this hormone goes, the higher your mood and energy go, too. However, if it’s the first day or two of your Week 1, estrogen is still on the low side, so you may continue to feel a little PMS-like irritation or blue moods. If this happens to you, just remind yourself to hold on just a little longer since rising estrogen’s positive effects will soon kick in.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: With high estrogen and testosterone ratcheting up your energy, enthusiasm and chattiness, you may have an over-the-top reaction to events, people or activities today that could leave folks scratching their heads. For instance, you may give a restaurant server a triple-sized tip, thank someone profusely when they give you a relatively small gift or scream or dance with joy when you hear good news.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Because today’s rising progesterone is a sedating hormone, unlike Week 2 gals, your emotional reactions to events, people and activities may be quieter and less pronounced. This is worth keeping in mind when you actually need to show emotion, for instance, when you’re trying to give a persuasive speech, remind yourself to pump up your energy or when you’re given a big gift, remind yourself to act more excited about it.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Want less irritation and blue moods during your premenstrual Week 4? Try to avoid overdoing it on caffeine. I know you’re probably fatigued from plunging estrogen, however, caffeine amps up anxiety, which can trigger anger and impatience.  And try to eat four to five small meals throughout the day. This prevents blood sugar from plunging, which helps keep you upbeat and relaxed.
