Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on, rising estrogen is revving your mood, excitement and motivation. So, you may discover or re-discover a passion you have for something. For instance, you may see a movie about a writer and be inspired to write your own novel or you may find your old 35mm camera when cleaning out the closet and decide to start taking photos again.

Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Your competitive streak peaks during your Week 2 as high estrogen and testosterone push you to be top dog. This could mean that you pull out all the stops to cream an opponent in a game, you make serious headway on a project that you’re hoping will outdo rivals at work or school or you simply refuse to back down in a heated debate.
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: When it comes to your mood, there are two halves to your Week 3: If it’s the first half, you may be prone to irritation and anger due to plunging estrogen. So, avoid stress triggers (when you can), ramp down your intake of caffeine (which worsens plunging hormone irritability) and have calming stress soothers at hand when you need them (such as chamomile tea or your favorite music). If it’s the second half of your Week 3, estrogen is now rising, which takes the edge off your anger. However, rising progesterone on these days could make you a little blue, weepy or sentimental depending on your sensitivity to this hormone. So, avoid sad mood triggers (for instance, the evening news), ramp down your intake of alcohol (which is a depressant that worsens down moods) and have uplifting mood lifters at hand when you need them (such as your favorite sit-com on the DVR or calling a funny pal who always makes you laugh).
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Plunging estrogen is making you a tad introspective and more prone to dwelling on regrets. So, the end of another month (how did October get here so fast?) could be a reminder to you of all the projects you’ve been meaning to get completed in 2013 that you haven’t even started yet, healthy resolutions you promised yourself and then broke or fun you planned to have/friends you meant to see/vacations you wanted to take, but haven’t. My advice? To avoid spiraling into a vortex of head-slapping self-recrimination, use today to take one step toward one to-do you really want to-done, be it making a phone call or doing research online. You’ll feel better and, hey, it could be just the tiny push you need to put the wheels in motion to make your goal a reality.
