My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Once you’re past the painful, fatiguing parts of your period this week, you’re likely going to be spending a bit more time on your hair, outfit and makeup. Researchers explain this urge to gussy up is due to rising estrogen, which pushes you to show off your physical assets as a way to entice the mate you’ve got or attract a new one in time for ovulation at the end of Week 2.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: The fun thing about Week 2 is that high estrogen and testosterone have you up for virtually any kind of adventure. That’s because these hormones are making you bolder, more impulsive and in the mood for excitement. This could mean anything from dancing in the aisles of a store to a great song being played over the PA system or taking a last-minute trip to the salon to overhaul your appearance to taking an impromptu overnight trip or flirting outrageously with someone you’d normally shy away from. Whatever blog post-worthy activity you decide to do, make sure you get it in before your fun-loving, daring Week 2 ends so you have no regrets.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Compared to Week 2 gals, you’re taking a more conservative approach to life this weekend due to lower levels of estrogen and testosterone combined with rising progesterone, which reduce your confidence and up your desire to play it safe. As a result, you’ll likely prefer to stay in the background rather than hog the spotlight, take more time to make decisions and avoid risky situations or people.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Take time to channel your artistic side this weekend, for instance, by writing a song, working on a painting or scrapbooking. Plunging estrogen is putting you more in touch with your emotions, making it easier to tap into your creativity.
