My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on, you may notice you’re saying “thank you” more frequently, offering to do more favors or are being more considerate and generous in other ways. People around you can credit your rising estrogen for the increased courtesy. As the level of this hormone climbs, it boosts your mood, desire to reach out to others and optimism–a combination that can prompt you to want to be nicer and spread positivity around.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Be on the lookout for unexplained feelings of happiness or even euphoria. You may chalk it up to it being the weekend or because the weather is beautiful or some other factor. But, chances are, you can thank high estrogen for your blissed-out experience. As the level of this hormone climbs higher and higher, it ratchets up levels of brain chemicals that make you feel all-over awesome. And sometimes you can get hit with a big wave of awesomeness all at once. So, when it happens, enjoy!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Compared to the loud and fast ways you preferred things in Week 2 of your cycle, you may notice that in your Week 3 you’re now turning down the volume on the radio a notch and driving or biking a bit slower. Why? As estrogen levels dip and progesterone rises, this hormone combination is making you prefer life at less ear-shattering decibels and at a less-than-breakneck speed.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You’re more prone to making silly mistakes today, say, pressing the wrong button on the coffeemaker or walking out of the house wearing two different shoes. Blame goes to plunging estrogen, which makes you a bit absent-minded as it falls.
