HORMONE HOROSCOPE: Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: It’s easier than it’s been in the past week to overlook someone else’s faults. Your renewed patience comes courtesy of estrogen. As the level of this hormone rises throughout your Week 1 and Week 2, it boosts the mood-regulating brain chemical serotonin—and this makes you more optimistic, upbeat and forgiving.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may want to carry a roll of antacids around and have back-up food plans in case today’s choices don’t pan out. High risk-taking testosterone is pushing you to try spicy or unusual meals you’d normally steer clear of during other weeks of your cycle. And this could mean making a surprising food discovery or being stuck with nothing to eat for lunch. Luckily, there couldn’t be a better time of the month to sample new flavors: high estrogen is making your sense of taste the sharpest it’ll be all cycle long!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may notice that energy you put into your career, school or start-up business begins to shift to matters closer to your heart, such as your home, friendships, partner, pets or children. Why? As estrogen dips this week, it makes you less focused on the material world outside; and, as progesterone rises, it boosts nurturing feelings, which makes you place more importance on your personal life. As a result, you may put in less time at the office or on schoolwork and make more dates with your family, hang out with a close bud, paint the bathroom or teach your dog a new trick.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As estrogen plunges this week, it’s like someone takes off your protective shell, making you more emotionally and physically sensitive to your environment. For instance, you may feel a tad maudlin if it rains, on edge if it’s noisy, unbearably hot if it’s muggy or chilled to the bone if the a/c is cranked up.
