My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on, you may start experimenting with your hair, makeup, clothing style or other aspects of your appearance. Why? Rising estrogen is putting you in the mood to have fun with how you look and making you braver about trying–and showing off–a new you!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: High estrogen and testosterone are revving your desire to explore and create adventure, so you may find it’s difficult to sit at your desk or stay put at home today and will likely be thinking of any reason to go outside, drive or travel, for instance, to run errands, visit a friend or have lunch at a restaurant in another neighborhood.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’re picking colors or products today, say, a new wall paint or kitchen appliance, you’ll likely go with the subdued, no-frills versions, for instance, a light blue over a jazzy orange or a manual potato peeler over a new-fangled electric one. That’s progesterone’s influence. As it rises, it puts you in a mellow, cautious mood, making you prefer low-key, familiar options over exciting, unfamiliar ones.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Going someplace crowded, noisy, stuffy or smelly? Try stashing something in your purse or travel mug that’s sure to soothe you. Plunging estrogen is making you more sensitive to annoyances, so having your favorite chai latte, comic book, scented moisturizer or other indulgence will make the experience easier.
