My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As estrogen dipped in the second half of your cycle (Week 3 and Week 4), it prompted you to explore your inner world–for instance, dwelling on past decisions you’ve made, regrets you’ve had and how you feel about a person or situation. Now as this hormone rises in the first half of your cycle (Week 1 and Week 2), you’re more about exploring the outer world. As a result, you likely become curious about people and situations around you, your desire to learn something new or master an old skill surfaces and you’re more open to accepting invitations to parties, meetings and other events that get you mingling with others.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: When ordering services that come with different types of plans (like cable TV or a wireless phone plan) or buying products that come with lots of options (such as a microwave oven or a computer), you’re likely to pay more attention to the fun extras and less attention to how much adding on each of these fun extras costs. That’s because high estrogen is making you prone to focusing more on immediate benefits (such as what cool things come with the service or product, like a gazillion movie channels or a popcorn setting) and less on long-range goals (such as saving for a big vacation, house or school). As a result, you can get easily dazzled by a fast-talking salesperson into making a bigger purchase than you intended. So, if you’ve got a long-range financial plan, keep in mind your hormones may be pushing you toward the fun perks right now, but if you conserve your cash, you’ll be even more satisfied when you meet your more important money goal later.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’re watching your health or your waistline, careful of using unhealthy foods as a way to soothe sadness, ease irritation or reward yourself for a job well done. Research shows that women are more prone to emotional eating in the second half of our cycle. That’s because rising progesterone is boosting your desire for high-calorie comfort foods while lower levels of estrogen are dampening your mood–a combination that can tie your feelings to your feedings.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Your powers of concentration may be on the low side today due to plunging estrogen, which make you more easily distracted by background noise, a TV, email, phone calls, you name it. So, if you’ve got an important project you need to get done today, try to seek out a quiet, interruption-free zone where you can work on it.
