Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You get a gold star today if you can resist splurging on something you totally don’t need, like a new outfit, electronic gadget or jewelry. High estrogen is pushing you to spend, spend, spend. That’s because, well, let’s face it–shopping is fun and this hormone wants you to have fun by the shopping basket-load! Unfortunately, because this peaking hormone is boosting your optimism and care-free attitude, it’s making you forget all about your budget, long-term financial goals and the bills piling up–which can cause some serious financial worry down the road. So, when you get the urge to pull out your cash or credit cards, try to remind yourself of all the reasons it would be wiser to keep your spending in check. Or at least keep receipts in case returns are called for once Week 3 rolls around.
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’re going to be eating “naughty” foods today (like chips, ice cream or cookies), I recommend doling out a specific portion rather than eating right out of the package. Rising progesterone is prompting cravings for sweet, salty and/or fatty foods, so once you start eating them, it may be difficult to stop.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may get frustrated by the little mistakes you make today, for instance, hitting the wrong key as you type, calling a friend by someone else’s name or putting salt instead of sugar into your tea. The problem is that plunging estrogen is lowering your dexterity and putting a minor dent in your mental abilities, making you have to work just a tad harder at getting things right.
