HORMONE HOROSCOPE: Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Silly, shiny, colorful products catch your eye (and call to your wallet) today. Why? If it’s the first half of your Week 1, it’s because fun, non-practical items help distract you from the pain and annoyance of your period. And if it’s the second half of your Week 1, it’s because rising estrogen is boosting levels of feel-good brain chemicals that bring out your silly side.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Try to think first before you speak today. You’re far more impulsive due to high testosterone and far chattier due to high estrogen. As a result of these hormonal effects, you could let a secret someone told you slip, reveal your true feelings about a friend’s new dress when a little fib would be make her feel better or tell a joke to someone who isn’t in the mood for funny business.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Your challenge today is to try to be more open to embracing new ideas and plans that pop up in your head, for instance, if you think about starting a new business or trying your hand at a new hobby. You may get the sense that they’re too difficult to do and want to dismiss them immediately. But, that’s just the result of lower levels of estrogen and testosterone combined with rising progesterone, which bring down your confidence and urge you to play it safe. Thing is, if you can override those hormone-fueled fears, you might see these new plans could really work!

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You could have an over-the-top reaction to an unexpected problem today that could make the issue worse. The reason? Plunging estrogen is triggering certain changes in your brain that up your tendency to panic and see a problem as bigger than it really is. In fact, this just happened to me the other day. I upgraded my virus software and after I rebooted my computer, all my many files and folders had disappeared! My heart started beating through my chest. In a frenzy, I raced to the nearest computer repair shop–a dinky little place with broken computer parts strewn wall to wall. After the guy told me he wanted to take apart my brand-new laptop to find out what was wrong and that it may take days to find out, I wisely grabbed my computer back, came home and did the one thing I should have done first: call the software company. They fixed the problem in under five minutes. So, when a problem crops up today, try to calm yourself down before trying to figure out ways to resolve it. Doing so could save you a big, fat headache.
