Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on, you become more willing to put up with minor annoyances–like a chair that’s a bit too hard or a faucet that drips loudly–than you did in your premenstrual Week 4. Credit for your flexibility goes to rising estrogen, which makes you more patient and upbeat, so you’re less bothered by small problems.

Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Try not to push yourself too hard today, Week 2 gal. You’re likely going to be convinced that you can go a long time without eating or drinking or that you can work hours and hours without a break or that you can totally manage a three-hour cardio session no prob. But, that’s just high estrogen talking, making you think you can overdo it without facing consequences. So, when you’re tempted to try to be superhuman today, remember that deep inside you’re still a mere mortal who needs food, water and breaks just like the rest of us.
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may notice your bowel movements come to a grinding halt. Or at least slow down like traffic on a Los Angeles freeway. Point the blame to rising progesterone. This hormone is prompting constipation because, as researchers theorize, it’s trying to help your body drain more nutrients from your food in case you got pregnant during ovulation at the end of your Week 2 and now need vitamins and minerals for two.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’re more apt to jump to conclusions, suspect hidden motives and not give people the benefit of the doubt as plunging estrogen drags down feel-good brain chemicals, making you see the world through a more negative lens. Try to keep this in mind when doubting co-workers, family members, job interviewees and other people who you interact with today so you can decide whether you need to be a bit more lenient with them.
