Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’re probably going to be encroaching on other people’s personal space today and get the urge to say things you probably shouldn’t as high estrogen has you overlooking personal boundaries in favor of getting up-close-and-personal and telling it like it is. And, it probably goes without saying that this effect is doubled if alcohol is involved.
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: This’ll be a tough day if you’ve got healthy food resolutions you want to stick to. That’s because rising progesterone is doing its best to push you toward high-calorie, fatty foods in case you got pregnant during ovulation and are now eating for two. Your body won’t know for sure whether or not you’re still dining solo till the start of Week 4. So, if you want to avoid falling off the healthy food wagon, either allow yourself a small, pre-portioned treat (as opposed to eating right out of the gallon-sized carton) so you don’t feel deprived or, if you’re the type who falls precipitously down slippery slopes, try to avoid junk food altogether by clearing your cupboards of unhealthy snacks and avoiding fast food restaurants and doughnut shops.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may get the feeling that the Universe waits for your premenstrual week to arrive to hit you with all the bad stuff–like a parking ticket, itchy rash or bumping your head on a cabinet door that mysteriously opened by itself–as if it gets a special kind of joy out of compounding premenstrual irritability and pain with even more to be irritable and pained about. Truth? There actually is a chance that more bad stuff happens to you in your Week 4 because plunging estrogen makes you more foggy-headed, less coordinated and more prone to flare-ups of certain health ailments. However, you’re also more likely to be focusing on what’s going wrong rather than what’s going right as lower levels of this hormone make you prone to being a bit more negative, so it may simply seem that your premenstrual week is fraught with bad luck.
