Which week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Just as the beginning of a new month or new year prompts the desire for a fresh start, so, too, may the beginning of a new cycle rev your desire to launch new goals or re-commit yourself to old ones you set aside, such as starting an exercise regimen, quitting smoking or looking for a new job. Even better, there’s a great bonus that comes with aligning the start of new goals with the beginning of a new cycle: You have rising estrogen to help push you forward as it ups motivation and the desire for a positive change!
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’ve got secrets you’ve been keeping from friends, family or co-workers–like that you have a crush on the office accountant or you had cosmetic work done on a certain body part (or parts)–be careful when chatting with others. High estrogen and testosterone are making you talkative, impulsive and bold–a combination that can have those secrets slipping out more easily than if you’d downed three margaritas in a row. And because your soaring hormones are making you overly confident, you may convince yourself that the person you’re telling can both handle the information (probably true) and keep it under wraps (don’t count on it).
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You might think of a way to brighten up the day of someone you know who’s having a tough time, for example, you may bring her a muffin or offer to take her out to coffee. Credit for your helpful ways goes to rising progesterone–a hormone that brings out your nurturing instincts.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Today you may feel achy, run-down, have the chills or feel hotter than normal, making you wonder if you’re coming down with something. In reality, it’s likely just plunging estrogen that’s triggering the overall discomfort. As the level of this hormone drops, it takes down your pep, makes everyday pains more noticeable and makes you more physically sensitive, so things like an air conditioner set on high or intense humidity can make you more uncomfortable.
