HORMONE HOROSCOPE: Thursday, September 5, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You likely have more patience while putting together furniture, reading instructions, mapping out a new route, figuring out a software program and doing other challenging tasks than you did in your premenstrual Week 4. Credit goes to rising estrogen, which sharpens brain skills needed to learn new information fast and gives you the resilience to get past minor setbacks without losing your cool.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may want to remind yourself to slow down as you speak to guys today, especially when you get excited, for instance, while bargaining down a salesman or asking a male friend to assist you with a big project. Peaking estrogen is making you talk faster than any other week of your cycle. And, while most women can easily keep up with your rapid-fire speech, men have fewer language processing areas in the brain than gals do, which can leave them in the dust.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may be feeling a bit more sentimental today due to the combination of rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen. As a result, you may get the urge to look over old photos, think about folks from your past or investigate your family tree on Ancestry.com or any of the free genealogy websites out there.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may find that you’re buying beauty items you don’t need, ordering food that’s totally not on your approved-food list or purchasing other items that satisfy your immediate gratification, but are completely unnecessary. As researchers have recently discovered, your free-wheeling spending is driven by your desire to quell any premenstrual aches and irritations caused by plunging estrogen. Turns out, a little splurge here and there is medicinal since it triggers a surge in brain chemicals that improve your mood and ease discomfort!
