Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!
Which week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:
It’s Halloween today in the United States and other spooky parts of the world, which means it’s a time to dress up in costume and cram in as much sugar as you can before your next dentist appointment. For the special occasion, I thought it would be fun to describe what kind of costumes would best describe the cycle week you’re in!
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Week 1 would dress up as a hippie, cartoon character or smiley face. The reason? As this week goes on and period-related fatigue and cramps disappear, rising estrogen is lifting your spirits and putting you in the mood to have fun!
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Week 2 would dress up as a go-go dancer, stunt pilot or Tasmanian Devil. That’s because this week’s peaking estrogen and testosterone are amping up your libido, desire for adventure and energy to cycle-long highs!
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Week 3 would dress up as a chocolate chip cookie, potato chip, pillow or sleeping pill. Sense a theme? Rising progesterone is making you both hungry and sleepy, so food and napping are pretty much fighting for first place on your craving list right now.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Week 4 would dress up as a merry-go-round, bomb with a lit fuse or princess. You can probably guess why, but I’ll explain anyway: This week’s plunging estrogen creates changes in certain mood-regulating brain chemicals, which makes you more likely to have mood swings, lose your patience more easily and insist on being treated like royalty–or at least given control over the TV remote!
