Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: After the mental and physical slow-down you experienced during the second half of your cycle due to sedating progesterone and lower estrogen, the surge in mental and physical energy you experience this week may tempt you to pile your plate with lots of to-dos and to volunteer for more responsibilities at work, school or organizations you belong to. Just be careful of taking on too much too fast and overloading yourself. There are still only 24 hours in the day and, despite sometimes feeling like you can skimp on sleep and meals to make it all happen, you’ll ultimately be happier and less stressed when you pace yourself.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’re a longtime fan of Hormonology, then you probably know by now that high estrogen and testosterone in your Week 2 rev certain brain chemicals that boost your mood to cycle-long highs. However, when someone ticks you off, this doesn’t mean you’re going to smile like every 1970s sitcom wife ever and offer the person who irritated you a plate of your homemade brownies to smooth things over. Truth is, these same high hormones are also making you far more passionate and bold, so you’re actually more likely to do all you can to get back at them, for instance, by venting (loudly) to them in person, writing a scathing online review or reporting them to whatever legal or corporate authorities can exact the justice you want.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may notice you’re “liking”, following or commenting on social media posts featuring recipes, DIY crafts, photos of scrumptious treats or amazing room layouts more often today. Point the blame squarely on rising progesterone. Studies show that as the level of this hormone climbs, it ratchets up your interest in anything related to food and home.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may find it’s a bit more of a challenge to do as much as you usually do, for instance, you may have to push yourself harder in the last mile of your morning jog or force yourself to focus more when working on the details of a project. The problem is that plunging estrogen is bringing down your physical and mental energy a notch, upping aches and making you more prone to distraction. Luckily, by simply anticipating these hormonal obstacles ahead of time, you can do things to overcome them, for instance, by sipping a caffeinated beverage before your run (several studies show that caffeine not only ups energy, but also reduces exercise-related pain) and silencing your phone and turning off other distractions as you work to make it easier to concentrate.
