HORMONE HOROSCOPE: Thursday, October 17, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on, the regrets and disappointments you dwelled on your in premenstrual Week 4 slowly give way to hope and optimism. Thanks goes to rising estrogen, which prompts the brain to churn out more feel-good chemicals–the exact ones that reverse pessimism and give you a cheerier outlook.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may annoy friends and family with your desire to try doing things a different way, head someplace totally odd or dive into something unusual, exciting and exotic. That’s because high estrogen and testosterone are making you antsy and bored with the same old thing, prompting a craving for adventure. However, you may be forgetting that women in other weeks of their monthly cycle and men in a lower phase of their daily testosterone cycle (which is the evening) aren’t as psyched about new methods, destinations and activities as you are. However, if you happen to pair up with another Week 2 gal whose thirst for newness is also high, well, then there’s no stopping you!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may decide to keep information hidden from others or avoid disclosing personal information about yourself even when everyone else is opening up. The reason? As progesterone rises, it’s not only clamming you up, making you less interested in gabbing away, it’s also making you more cautious, so you’re more careful about who hears what.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you can take an objective look at yourself today, you may laugh at the little things that end up ticking you off, for instance, that the oat milk carton is being really difficult to open or that spellcheck is telling you a word is spelled incorrectly when you know for sure you spelled it right and you should know because you totally aced spelling in school (and I may or may not be speaking from recent experience right now). The problem is that plunging estrogen is bringing down your patience and souring your mood a bit, so it’s taking a lot less to trigger your ire.
