Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may nibble food when you’re not hungry, shop when you don’t need anything or cut your bangs even if they don’t need a trim. That’s because rising estrogen makes you a bit restless–so if you’re not actively engaged in a project, you’ll find something to keep you busy.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: There is the potential for you to get pretty disappointed today, Week 2 gal. That’s because high estrogen is pumping up your optimism and idealism to cycle-long highs, making you think the best of people (no matter how many times you’ve been let down before) and believe that any project (no matter how big or complex) is totally doable. So, if the person you had faith in doesn’t pull through or the project you wanted to do doesn’t turn out like you wanted, it can hit you pretty hard. To avoid a huge let-down, try to keep a realistic perspective on people and projects. That way, you’ll be thrilled when things turn out great and avoid wallowing in the depths of despair if they don’t.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may get off to a slow start with your day or projects. The problem is that sedating progesterone tends to make you move slower than usual and has a tendency to sap your pep and motivation. To overcome this hormonal hurdle, try to take a teeny tiny step in the direction you want to go. Research shows that once you do start to get moving, you tend to keep going toward your goal.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may feel a bit of anxiety today, for instance, over bills or a situation at work. The problem is that plunging estrogen is triggering a dip in the mood-regulating brain chemical serotonin, so you’re prone to focus on the negatives and could be blowing certain problems out of proportion. To avoid wasting the whole day fretting, remind yourself that plummeting hormones are triggering more negativity and things may be more fixable than they seem.
