HORMONE HOROSCOPE: Monday, October 7, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Need to map out a driving route, put together a new bike or find your way around the mall? Research shows that during Week 1 of your cycle you’re better at these tasks and others that require spatial ability than any other week of your cycle. The reason? Turns out, low estrogen during this week allows your testosterone to shine through–and that’s key since this is a hormone that sharpens spatial skills in the brain.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’re likely to be doling out compliments to friends, family members, even strangers on line in the coffee shop next to you today. That’s high estrogen’s influence. As the level of this hormone soars in your Week 2, it makes you more upbeat, extroverted and easily excited or inspired by a beautiful scarf someone’s wearing, a new phone someone’s using or some other cool doodad, prompting you to let folks know how much you like it!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Some may say you’re a bit on the shy side today and even ask if there’s something wrong in your life or if you’re not feeling well. That’s because rising progesterone is making you quieter and more sedate, it’s make you less likely to muster excitement and enthusiasm, and it’s making you less expressive. And all this subduedness can could confuse friends, family members and coworkers who witnessed you being so chatty, excited, expressive and energetic just last week when extroversion-triggering estrogen was calling the shots.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Keep a close eye on your keys, phone, lunch and other important items today. There’s a good chance you could misplace them as plunging estrogen fogs up your brain a bit and puts a damper on your short-term memory.
