My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: After you’re past the cocoony part of your period, you’re going to enjoy shopping more and more all the way through the end of your Week 2. That’s because rising estrogen is making you more extroverted, so you’ll enjoy any excuse to get out of the house and be among other people. Plus, it’s making you more upbeat and optimistic, so you’re not overly worried about how much you’re spending. By contrast, in Week 3 and Week 4 of your cycle, lower levels of estrogen make the idea of leaving the couch, dealing with annoying fellow shoppers and parting with your hard-earned cash far less appealing.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’re more open to reading about or listening to new ideas, even ones you don’t necessarily agree with, for instance, when talking with people, picking a book to read or perusing posts on Facebook. Credit goes to high estrogen, which makes you more mentally flexible and curious.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: In your Week 2, high estrogen and testosterone had you hurtling toward exciting, adventurous activities. During your Week 3, lower levels of these hormones combined with rising progesterone are slowing you down, making you enjoy sedate, relaxing activities, say, visiting a museum, reading a book or simply gazing up at a starry sky.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: A health issue you’ve been having or that someone you care about is having could seem more worrisome today even if there hasn’t been a change in its status. The problem is that plunging estrogen is bringing down your confidence while upping anxiety, which can make you think anything from a suspicious mole to a nasty cold is worse than it may really be.
