HORMONE HOROSCOPE: Friday, September 20, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Thanks to rising estrogen, which makes you more goal-oriented, flexible and open-minded, you’re more open to change today. This change might involve watching a new TV show, talking to a stranger or signing up for a class. Or it could involve change in yourself, for instance, tweaking your personality to be a different kind of person you always wanted to be, for instance, a social butterfly or less of a perfectionist.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may notice more folks are talking with you, flirting with you and generally want to hang around you today. What gives? During your Week 2, high estrogen is making you chattier, funnier and more upbeat–traits that, in general, most folks love. And on top of that, this hormone is prompting your body to churn out pheromones–scentless chemicals in your sweat that attract cuties like a magnet!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may discover that certain foul aromas smell more repugnant or gory images seem more disturbing today. That’s progesterone’s fault. As this hormone rises, it increases your aversion to disgusting things as a way to get you to steer clear of potential threats in case you got pregnant during ovulation at the end of Week 2 and you have a baby on board to protect. So, until your body realizes you’re not pregnant at the start of Week 4, triggering a drop in progesterone, you may want to avoid stomach-churning sights and aromas.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Be careful of letting your imagination run away with you today. With estrogen on the downswing, you may be tempted to think the worst of anything, for instance, that a little red patch on your elbow means you’re having a bad reaction to a medicine, the electric company will shut off your power if you’re a week late with the payment or that a minor mistake at work may cost you your job. Before jumping to conclusions and freaking yourself out, take a deep breath and consult with a pal or family member who can give you an objective opinion.
