My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Once you get past the aches and fatigue of your period and your estrogen starts to really climb in your Week 1, your desire to dive into projects climbs with it. Even better, this hormone is boosting your brain skills and mental energy as its level rises, making it easy to get so absorbed in your work, you can be late for appointments, miss out on social events or even skip a meal or two.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You get a gold star if you can think of anything but romance today, for example, you may have fantasies about a secret crush, plan new ways to seek out a new partner or daydream about fun you want to have with your current squeeze. That’s high estrogen and testosterone’s influence. When these hormones climb, they act like mischievous matchmakers, pushing you to make a love connection.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may feel like something you were ga-ga about in your Week 2–like your job, relationship status or living situation–is a lot less likable today. Why the sudden change? While you were in your Week 2, high estrogen and testosterone were making you see everything in a positive light and even if there were problems, you were prone to look for the silver lining. Not so in Week 3. As those hormones dip to lower levels this week, those rose-colored glasses come off and you’re seeing the world in a more realistic light without all that fancy-shmancy optimism to make it seem better than it really is. Oh, things probably aren’t all that bad. But, the stark reality that they’re not perfect or that problems aren’t that easy to overcome could be a bit disappointing.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Watch out, Week 4 gal! Research shows that injuries rise during your premenstrual week. Blame goes to plunging levels of estrogen, which take away your dexterity and make you a tad less coordinated than you are during other weeks of your cycle. As a result, you could end up bumping into walls, dropping heavy items on your foot or tripping over nothing at all. Suffice to say, texting while fire baton twirling is strongly discouraged during this time.
