Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!
Which week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Have a dentist or doctor appointment to schedule? Make a call today to fit it in between the second half of your Week 1 and the end of your Week 2. Rising estrogen on these days prompts a higher output of endorphins–feel-good brain chemicals that mask pain. Result: Whatever procedure you get done will hurt less than if you did the same procedure before or after these days. Are there no appointments available for the days you want? Ask the receptionist to call you if someone cancels. I just did this with my booked-solid dentist and scored an appointment during my Week 2–just like I wanted!
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you don’t find something fun to do with others today, you may feel a bit restless or lonely. That’s because high estrogen is revving your desire to socialize and have fun. So, if you don’t have anything yet planned, call up pals for an impromptu night out or head someplace where there’s sure to be lots of people who share one of your interests, like a Meetup group, acrobatics class or art opening.
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’ll probably notice you’re having more digestive issues today, such as constipation, gas and bloating. That’s rising progesterone’s fault. As the level of this hormone climbs, it slows down your digestive tract, which researchers speculate it does as a way to gather more nutrients from your food in case you got pregnant during ovulation and now need enough vitamins and minerals for two. Of course, it doesn’t help any that this same hormone is also prompting more cravings for junk food, which is notorious for triggering constipation due to its low fiber content–a nutrient the body needs to help move things along. So, in-between bags of Funyuns and ice cream sandwiches, try to fit in fresh vegetables and whole grains, which will help you stay regular, easing tummy woes.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may be hitting the “delete” key more often today or wishing you could take something back that you’d said to someone. The problem is that plunging estrogen tends to bring down your confidence, which can make you a bit worried that something you wrote or said could be construed as an insult, libelous or simply not as intelligent or witty as you’d hoped.
