Which week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If it’s the first half of your Week 1, you may notice you’re likely stumbling over a few words as you speak or are having a bit of trouble remembering the exact words you want to say. The problem is that after dropping to rock-bottom levels on Day 1, low (though rising) levels of estrogen are just beginning to jump-start your brain and sharpen verbal skills, but haven’t quite taken off yet. Good news though: By the second half of your Week 1, estrogen will have risen to a point where you’re noticing a considerable change in your verbal abilities: You’re more fluent, you’re remembering key details more easily and are more eloquent overall. And these verbal skills improve all the way through the end of your Week 2, making it the perfect time to ask for a favor, request a raise, haggle on a price, sway others to your point of view or do anything else that requires stellar speaking skills.
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may get a bit passionate about things today, such as an idea you come up with, a plan someone proposes or even just a great sale. That’s high estrogen’s influence. As this hormone reaches its heights in your Week 2, it makes you more easily excited!
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: There’s no way around this: You’re probably going to have more gas throughout your Week 3. That’s because progesterone is triggering constipation, which can lead to a build-up of air in your intestines. If you feel an uncomfortable gas bubble that just won’t pass, don’t lie down. Research shows this tells your digestive system to slow down, trapping the air longer. Instead, stand up and walk around. This tells the digestive system to keep working, so it pushes it out faster.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As your estrogen drops during your premenstrual Week 4, it’s no secret that it can trigger a bit of moodiness. That’s because this hormonal plunge can make you a bit more sensitive and more in touch with your feelings. The upside? This makes it a great time to focus on a creative project that mines your emotions, such as scrapbooking, journaling, painting, pottery, sculpting or quilting!
